For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:10 ESV
Have you ever highlighted something and then, flipping the page, found that it didn’t bleed through? This feels like a moment of victory to me, when I have found the perfect highlighter-the one that highlights only what I intended. God creates the most perfect things, and He created the perfect highlighter!
One Sunday, I was walking down the aisle before service, and I noticed a lady in a black dress with red flowers. There was no one sitting around her, and while I heard the rise and fall of conversations and the lilt of laughter in the room, this woman seemed impervious to the familial atmosphere. I was drawn to her like a moth to a porch light.
As we spoke, exchanging names and small talk, I felt impressed to tell her that God saw her, had given her specific gifts, and had a plan for her life. As soon as the words fell out of my mouth, she grabbed my hand and pulled me down to sit beside her. The desperation in her face and hunger in her eyes told me that the words I’d uttered were worth more than diamonds to her. I shared a scripture near to my heart and felt drops hit my hand as we bowed our heads to pray. So simple, so life-changing.
God created us for this. We were created to do good works. Ephesians 2:10b (TPT) reads, “Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it!” How exciting to know that God has great things planned for us to do!
The Perfect Highlighter
A highlighter is a tool that overlays a fluorescent color so that what is underneath can be easily read and emphasized. When we look for who God highlights to us, listen for His voice, and speak His words into the lives of others, we yield to God’s destiny and become the perfect highlighters–allowing people we touch to know they are seen and loved by God. A highlighter is a simple, effective tool.
You don’t have to be perfect to be the perfect highlighter. God wants to use you to highlight His love for people who are desperate to be seen. We don’t have to be afraid to step out boldly at His call. Isaiah 41:10 says, “Do not yield to fear, for I am always near. Never turn your gaze from Me, for I am your faithful God. I will infuse you with My strength and help you in every situation. I will hold you firmly with My victorious right hand” (TPT).

Oh, this is warm and cozy like my favorite blanket!! I love it! Thank you for pointing out the need for highlighters! ♥️
Thank you so much! It’s amazing to know that He just wants to use us, right where we are! ♥️
It’s amazing to realize that He wants to use us right where we are, with what we have. We don’t have to be fancy or have the whole Bible memorized. What encouragement that is!
Wow this is so amazing. Love it!
